As part of the My Favorite Village 2018 campaign, Tengeru CTE has won the third place (and public’s first choice!). An inspiring and inviting initiative!
In Tengeru, a village located 15km from Arusha in northern Tanzania, Mama Gladness warmly welcomes visitors to her property. Around a beautiful garden, her house adjoins a modern house where visitors can stay. The three charming rooms have a good comfort, but it is also possible to sleep under the tent. A complete kitchen and a pleasant lounge are also at your disposal. On the garden side, you will meet the cows of the family, who provide milk and raw material for the production of biogas used for cooking and natural fertilizer for fruits, vegetables and herbs produced on site.
The proposed activities allow to discover the village of Tengeru (7000 inhabitants, mainly of the Meru tribe), whose large market attracts nearly 3000 merchants every Wednesday and Saturday. Stroll on the slopes of Mount Meru through banana plantations, traditional preparation of coffee, canoe on the sacred lake Duluti, mountain biking or cooking classes are also on the program. For over 10 years, the accommodation has been offering a bike tour to visit the Maasai community. It is a memorable experience for visitors. The guide will tell good stories to visitors and they will learn a lot about the local culture. Visitors will feel at home.
During your stay at the accommodation, you will have the opportunity to meet Mrs. Gladness, who will tell you about her past. She has faced many challenges, but she is now an example to follow and she encourages others to pursue their dreams.
The community involvement of Mama Gladness and her team is impressive: more than 65% of your money is used to implement some projects for people who really need it. For example, these benefits have supported two schools, a hospital, three orphanages, a care center for people with HIV, and waste collection. Another community-based project of the accommodation is a tree-planting project to combat the threats of global warming. Visitors can also participate directly in the program by planting a tree!
The Tengeru CTE is a true model of sustainable tourism and solidarity.
Mama Gladness and her team are waiting for you!
