The small village of Chazuta is now recognized as the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon Rain Forest. Several associations of agricultural producers, mainly focused on cocoa, can be found there. The Joicy V. Bartra Cultural Center is, above all, a place of meetings and exhibitions. You will be fascinated by the wood sculptures, as each one embodies a legend or a typical belief from the Amazonian culture.
Located 45 minutes from Tarapoto, Chazuta is a peaceful place of a surprising beauty where you can sail on the river with agricultural producers and visit the Allima Cooperative Association. There you will be introduced to the various stages of cocoa production.
For several years now, the Joicy V. Bartra Cultural Center has been offering cultural and educational workshops to local children, teenagers, and students. It has also partnered with Mishky, a local women association, to offer the possibility of taking the Chocolate Road, directly in Chazuta. This initiative aims to develop itself sustainably and jointly with the community, by supporting capacity building in Chazuta.
